Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr., alongside his father, built the non-Cuban La Gloria Cubana brand from Miami’s Calle Ocho neighborhood before the family sold the brand to Swedish Match in 1999.
For another decade, he worked for Swedish Match and later General Cigar Co. before he and his children launched E.P. Carrillo, known today as Casa Carrillo. Last year, Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG), the company that now owns the non-Cuban La Gloria Cubana, partnered with the Casa Carrillo factory for Los Gloriosos, a new La Gloria Cubana made by Perez-Carrillo Jr.
It launched in three regular production vitolas, but earlier this year, STG teased a new, limited-edition size. The La Gloria Cubana Los Gloriosos Salomón measures 6 3/4 x 58. Like the rest of the line, it uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over a binder from Jalapa, Nicaragua and fillers from the Dominican Republic as well as Nicaragua’s Condega and Jalapa regions.
Unlike the rest of the line, it’s limited and will only be sold at events. STG has made 1,000 five-packs of cigars, which are priced at $74.95, working out to $14.99 per cigar. STG says it is now available at select events.
“We wanted to give fans of The Lady the chance to get even closer to the roots of La Gloria Cubana,” says John Hakim, brand manager for La Gloria Cubana, in a press release. “So we had Ernesto Perez-Carrillo create his newest La Gloria blend in a rare shape that he loves and fans will appreciate. This rare and exclusive cigar is a special treat for our most passionate fans and can be found only at La Gloria Cubana events!”
