Black Works Studio Culture Vulture Coming This Month

A new limited-edition from the Black Works Studio brand will be arriving in stores soon, and, according to James Brown, it represents a whole new level for the brand.

It’s called Culture Vulture, and it uses an Ecuadorian maduro wrapper accented by Connecticut-seed and candela strips of tobacco. Underneath that is an Ecuadorian habano binder and a Nicaraguan filler. Brown, creator of Black Label Trading Co. and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra, said in a press release that this is the boldest profile ever created for a Black Works Studio release, noting that the blend has an intensity and depth that push the boundaries of the brand’s previous releases.

The line is made at Fábrica Oveja Negra in Estelí, Nicaragua and offered in a panetela, robusto and toro vitola. All three sizes are offered in 20-count boxes and are priced between $13.50 and $14.50. Production is limted to 800 boxes of both the robusto and toro, while the panatela is limited to 500 boxes.

“It’s unlike anything we’ve created before, from the artwork and overall concept to the construction of the cigar itself,” said Brown. “From the first look, the dual wrapper grabs your attention with an ‘Ombré’-style fade that moves from green to yellow and back to green, highlighting the contrast between the Candela and Habano wrappers.”

Brown said that the artwork was created alongside the cigar, with both designed to capture the same bold, unconventional energy. For me, the visual identity and the cigar itself must work together—they’re both part of telling the story,” Brown said.

Black Works Studio, often stylized as BLK WKS, is a brand within Black Label Trading Co., created to showcase the talent, technique and tobacco of Fábrica Oveja Negra.

The cigars are slated to begin shipping next week.
