A new release from Les Fines Lames was created to honor a legendary squadron of American pilots who fought in World War II.
The French-based accessories company has announced the Le Petit by Les Fines Lames Flying Tigers Limited Edition, a new colorway for the company’s cigar knife. Each has an MSRP of $199 in the U.S. and €199 in European markets. A total of 250 individually numbered knives are being released.
To commemorate the famous squadron, each cutter features a shark face that was inspired by the art that adorned the aircraft in the First American Volunteer Group, known as the Flying Tigers. In addition, the newest release is the first time that Le Fines Lames has released a cutter with an armor black cerakote blade.
The frst American Volunteer Group and was made up of pilots from the United States Army Air Corps, the Navy and the Marine Corps. Operating from 1941-1942, the group consisted of three fighter squadrons—each including about 30 aircraft—tasked with defending the Republic of China against Japanese forces in World War II.
Functionally, this new cutter is identical to the dozens of other Le Petit models the company has introduced over the years, the only differences are the handle design and blade materials. The Le Petit works by opening the knife blade from the body, which reveals a half-moon cut-out that is designed to cut the cap of a cigar. Les Fine Lames says the cutter can cut cigars up to 70 ring gauge. That means it measures 4.53 inches when closed and 6.18 inches when open. As part of the release, Les Fines Lames is also selling a Flying Tigers-branded Duo Cigar Case. Each case has an MSRP of $125 in the U.S. and €125 in European markets, and there are a total of 250 cases.
