Topper Cigar Co., which lays claim to be the oldest continually-operated family-owned cigar company in the U.S., has a handful of new releases. Some are part of a new line, while others are a new vitola for the company, and one cigar is a combination of both.
The Topper 1894 Broadleaf is the new regular production line, a spin-off from the Topper 1894 line, which is named after the year in which the company was founded. It uses a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, grown in Connecticut, over a Dominican binder and Dominican-grown Connecticut broadleaf-seed fillers.
It’s offered in four vitolas:
- Topper 1894 Broadleaf Shorty (4 1/4 x 43) — $5.50 (Box of 25, $137.50)
- Topper 1894 Broadleaf Robusto (5 x 50) — $8.75 (Box of 20, $175)
- Topper 1894 Broadleaf Corona (6 x 44) — $8.75 (Box of 20, $175)
- Topper 1894 Broadleaf Toro (6 x 54) — $10.50 (Box of 20, $210)
The other two new SKUs are also Shorty cigars, a new 4 1/4 x 43 petite corona vitola for the company’s lines. There’s an 1894 Shorty, the original blend, that is priced at $5.50, while the new Topper 125th Anniversary Shorty is priced at $6.50 per cigar.
For context, the original Topper 1894 line, which was released in 2024, uses a habano-seed wrapper grown in Sugar Valley, Pa. over the Dominican-grown Connecticut broadleaf fillers.
Topper’s cigars are produced by De Los Reyes in the Dominican Republic.
The new items had a launch party last week at Mickey Blakes in Southington, Conn. and began shipping to stores nationwide yesterday, July 9.
