The Por Larrañaga Intemporales, an Edición Regional for Switzerland, is set to go on sale later this month, some three years after it was first announced.
It is a panetela vitola measuring 6 inches (152mm) long and with a 38 ring gauge, a size known as the Laguito No.2. It’s a size shared with the Cohiba Especiales and Montecristo Especiales No.2, as well as a handful of other regional and limited-edition cigars.
The cigars go on sale at La Casa del Habano stores in the country on June 23, and then at Habanos Specialist retailers on June 30. Production is limited to 6,000 numbered boxes of 25 cigars, a run of 150,000 cigars. Pricing is set at CHF 750 ($940.45) per box, which works out to CHF 30 ($37.62) per cigar.
“A slender, almost ascetic format in its proportions, it belongs to the great tradition of fine Cuban cigars,” wrote Intertabak AG, the Habanos S.A. distributor in Switzerland, in a press release. “At a time when the general market trend pulls decisively towards large, powerful formats, choosing a ring gauge of 38 is an act of elegant resistance,” adding that it is geared toward smokers who appreciate the complexity that unfolds with patience.
The press release calls the profile aromatic, subtle, and balanced. The first third is described as having “notes of cedar and roasted nuts on a creamy base, before the development enriches itself with soft leather, coffee, and a touch of cocoa.” It’s billed as a medium-strength profile, one that “is faithful to the identity of a brand that has always favored finesse over raw power.”
Intertabak AG said that the name Intemporales was chosen to evoke that which crosses eras without submitting to them, resisting fashion and the ephemeral.
“In the universe of Habanos, where time is a material in its own right, the term takes on a particular resonance: it celebrates the permanence of artisanal craft, the constancy of a savoir-faire passed down from generation to generation in Cuban factories. It embodies a vision of the cigar as an object of contemplation, one that must be earned and savored with the slow pace it demands.”
