Plasencia El Año de la Cabra Slated for December

After getting previewed last month, Plasencia’s year of the goat cigar has been formally announced.

The Plasencia El Año de la Cabra is a 6 1/4 x 60 perfecto that uses a wrapper from Azacualpa, Honduras over a Honduran binder and fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua. Plasencia says that the Nicaraguan fillers were grown under its organic farming program.

This is the seventh consecutive year that Plasencia has released a cigar for the Chinese Lunar New Year and the associated zodiac calendar. Chinese New Year 2027, which takes place on Feb. 6, will ring in the year of the goat. Perhaps most notably, this is the first time that a Plasencia Lunar New Year cigar has been made in Honduras. All previous versions were rolled at the company’s factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

“The goat represents a quiet but powerful strength, one that comes from patience, balance, and an instinctive connection to nature,” said Néstor Andrés Plasencia in a press release. “Those qualities are deeply connected to how our family has approached tobacco for more than 160 years. With El Año de la Cabra, we wanted to create a cigar that honors that philosophy, bringing together the character of our Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos in an expression that is both distinctive and deeply rooted in the land.”

As with past releases, the packaging relies heavily on red and gold, two colors that have special significance in China. Each box comes with 10 cardboard sleeves that are included in case people want to gift individual cigars.

Plasencia expects El Año de la Cabra to ship in early December.
