MBombay Cigars will release two limited-edition pyramids: the Kesara Pyramid rolled in 2020, and the MQBA Mayura Pyramid rolled in 2019. The company plans to release both Pyramids as one-time limited editions, with no plans to produce them again.
A total of 834 boxes of the Kesara Pyramid and 826 boxes of the MQBA Mayura Pyramid have been rolled. Each comes in ten-count boxes, and the combined release consists of 16,600 cigars. Both Pyramid sizes come in a 6 x 54 format.
The Kesara features MBombay’s lightest-shed blend. It features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Ecuadorian Habano 2000 binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Peru Mejorado. The SRP is $29.99/cigar.
The MQBA Mayura is the older of the two, rolled in 2019. MBombay builds the Mayura cigar on its MQBA blend, pairing a Colorado shade Ecuador Habano HVA wrapper with an Ecuador binder. The fillers come from Paraguay, Peru, and Nicaragua. Pricing is SRP $39.99/cigar. Mayura is the Sanskrit word for peacock.
According to MBombay, two factors limit this release. First, there is only one roller at Tabacos de Costa Rica who can make the pyramid shape to Bombay’s standards. Second, the tobaccos came from a single, finite lot. When they rolled the lot, they completed the run. They released neither cigar at the time of production. The MQBA Mayura has rested since 2019 and the Kesara Pyramid since 2020, held so each blend could come forward before going to market. MBombay directs fermentation and leaf aging with its factory, then ages finished cigars in the United States before release.
“We had one roller who could make this shape and one lot of tobacco to make it from,” said Mel Shah, founder of MBombay Cigars. “When the lot was gone, so was the run. Then we waited until the cigars were ready, not until the calendar said it was time.”
