Today, we are reviewing Burger King’s Game Day Burger. Burger King introduced this limited-edition offering in October 2026. It was part of a two-menu offering that Burger King calls a “stadium-inspired lineup built around the flavors guests crave on game day. There are two items on the menu (we will be focusing on the Burger today)
- Burger King Game Day Burger
- Chicken Fries with Nacho Sauce
While Burger King has made many variations of its hamburgers over the years, this burger has two distinctive features. First, it features a pretzel bun from the popular soft pretzel brand Super Pretzel. Second, it features a nacho cheese sauce (also used on the Chicken Fries).
One thing I noticed was that the Game Day Pretzel Burger wasn’t branded as a Whopper. The Game Day Pretzel Burger seemed close in size to a Whopper.
The Construction
Normally, I order a menu item for assessment with the default options. However, I chose the Texas Whopper without mayonnaise. As many know, I am not a fan of mayonnaise, and I usually avoid it when possible. Additional customization options include Swiss cheese, ketchup, onion rings, and BBQ Sauce. I did not use any of these options in this assessment.
- Flame Broiled Beef Patty (Default)

The Game Day Pretzel Burger comes with all of Burger King’s standard “Have it your way” customization options. This includes lettuce, tomato, raw onion, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, Swiss cheese, jalapeños, and onion rings. In this case, the Game Day Pretzel Burger was ordered with all the default options, with no customization.
The Appearance (*)
Lately, the comparison photos with the advertised Burger King options have improved. They still aren’t at the level of the publicity photos, but they’re getting there. The actual burger doesn’t quite have the ingredients stacked like in the photo, and the bun doesn’t quite have the same sheen.

Comparison Rating: Fair
The Experience
We scored the Game Day Pretzel Burger like many other hamburgers we have assessed, including the Burger King BBQ Brisket Whopper. As we have been doing for a while, we scored cheese as a condiment. We also scored the bacon as a condiment rather than a meat.
- Meat (Hamburger): 4 points
- Bun: 2 points
- Condiments: 2 points
- Intangibles: 2 points
Meat (Hamburger)
I didn’t measure the hamburger patty, but the sandwich had a five-inch diameter. This looked pretty close to a Whopper-sized patty for me. I’ve always said I am usually satisfied with Burger King’s flame-broiled hamburger patty, and the Game Day Pretzel Burger was no exception. While not a Whopper, it has all the characteristics: a slight flame-broiled taste, light seasoning, and a slight chewiness. Overall, it’s a good burger, but I miss the grill marks Burger King burgers used to have.
I’ve seen an option at Burger King where you can order it “Hot off the Broiler”. It’s an option I want to try, as I think the burger can score higher. The problem is that I would have to conduct the food assessment on-premises at Burger King, which I could do. While I use a thermal bag or cooler to transport the food and maintain temperature, I still think something would get lost when ordering “Hot off the Broiler” and transporting it.
Score: 2.25 points out of 4.00 points
Bun
Burger King uses a warm, soft Super Pretzel bun. There is a slight doughiness, a slight saltiness, and a slight. The crust is present not only on top, but also on the bottom. It had a slight buttery sheen. I liked not only how the bun tastes, but also that it had a twisted look.
Score: 1.50 out of 2.00 points
Condiments
We break down the condiments one by one for the Game Day Pretzel Burger
- Nacho Cheese Sauce: The Game Day Burger doesn’t use ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise, so the nacho cheese sauce fills the bill. This was definitely a milder cheese sauce with a slight tanginess and saltiness. It isn’t going to deliver heat. It was good, but not memorable.
- Pickles: These were soft, sliced pickles with wedges. These had salty and dill flavors.
- Bacon: The bacon was pretty much on par with the bacon offerings I’ve had from Burger King. It isn’t as well-done as I like, but it certainly wasn’t undercooked. It had the smokiness and saltiness one would expect from bacon
- American Cheese: This is creamy and melted. Like the nacho cheese, this is a very mild cheese with a buttery and milky quality that added a touch of sweetness.
- Crispy Onions: There weren’t many, but they still made their way off the sandwich from time to time. They definitely lose some crispiness along the way. These add an additional hint of sweetness to the Game Day Pretzel Burger.
Overall, while no condiment stood out, none was a miss either. All were average to slightly above average in my book.
Score: 1.25 out of 2.00 points
Intangibles
As always, the main thing we look at is whether the overall experience exceeds the sum of the parts. In this case, the answer is yes. I found that all the ingredients worked well together, with nothing feeling out of place. The milder cheeses complemented the burger without overwhelming it, allowing the smokiness of the bacon, the saltiness of the pickles, and the sweetness of the onion to shine through. I also appreciated that the pretzel bun didn’t dominate the flavors. It felt like I was eating a burger on a soft pretzel, which is essentially what I was doing.
I also found this offering filled me up. The ingredients were in a good ratio. The onion strips were the messiest part, and despite that, it is the one ingredient I would have liked to see more of.
Score: 1.25 out of 2.00 points
OVERALL ASSESSMENT
As I said when I assessed the condiments, there really wasn’t a star of the show for the Game Day Pretzel Burger. At the same time, no doubt the X factor here is the pretzel bun. This is one of the better pretzel buns I’ve had on a fast food burger. Overall, I think Burger King has a future with pretzel buns, and the possibilities are endless. I will say, I think this offering would be a lot less memorable with a standard bun. However, the pretzel bun does its job, and this limited-edition offering provided an enjoyable, filling option.
