In what has become a bit of a theme for TAA 2026, J.C. Newman’s exclusive release for retail members of the Tobacconists’ Association of America is one from its archives.
The Brick House Beginnings Ciento Por Ciento is the company’s TAA 2026 release. It’s a five-year aged version of the Ciento Por Ciento, which the company used for its 2019 and 2023 releases for the TAA. The cigar is both the same vitola, 6 1/4 x 54, and blend, all Nicaraguan, as the previous releases, just these cigars were aged a lot longer.
Ciento Por Ciento is Spanish for 100 percent. It refers to the fact that the cigars are made entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco, capped off by a habano wrapper from Jalapa.
This is not the first time that J.C. Newman has released a cigar under the Beginnings name as an exclusive for the TAA. The concept was used in 2021, albeit with three different vitolas. J.C. Newman describes Beginnings as an “occasional series of well-aged cigars.”
Joya de Nicaragua, which is bringing back its Cuatro Cinco Edición Americana, and Ferio Tego, which is offering its 2024 and 2025 TAA exclusives, are also offering TAA stores cigars from their pasts.
“Brick House is one of my great-grandfather’s original cigar brands,” said Drew Newman, owner of J.C. Newman, in a press release. “First rolled in 1937, Brick House honors the home where my great-grandfather was born in 1875. As it was the only house in the village built from brick, the home was known as ‘the brick house.’”
Newman told halfwheel the cigars are ready to ship stores, which means they will like be on shelves starting the first week of November.
The TAA is a membership group, around 80 retailers and approximately 40 manufacturers, that gathers annually to discuss issues facing the industry and retailers, as well as to have its annual trade show, a unique event that works on a group buying format in order to secure exclusive deals for these generally high-volume merchants.
During the annual event—the 2026 version takes place Oct. 25-29 at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic—the organization holds two selling events, one known as the Dream Machine, where the retailers collectively order to secure larger discounts, while the other is a more traditional trade show. Typically, around a dozen manufacturers release new exclusive cigars for the retail members of the organization under the TAA Exclusive Series Program (ESP) banner. Those manufacturers agree to give a portion of the proceeds to the organization, a minimum of 50 cents per cigar.
Casa Carrillo, Espinosa, J.C. Newman, Joya de Nicaragua, Kristoff, Gurkha, Rocky Patel and Villiger Cigars North America have announced 2026 TAA ESP releases.
