Domain Attenuation His Eminence Review
Domain Attenuation His Eminence

Today, we are reviewing the Domain Attenuation in the His Eminence (Belicoso Shaggy) size. Attenuation is Domain’s fourth regular production line and represents the brand’s Connecticut Shade offering. Domain’s line names are inspired by concepts from Physics, and “Attenuation” refers to the process of reducing intensity. Until now, the company lacked a milder option in its portfolio, so Attenuation addresses that need.

Domain Cigars is a new company that launched in March 2024. The company is part of a partnership between Esteban Disla and Daniel Lance. One interesting thing about Domain Cigars is that it is not just entering the market as a brand, but as a full-service tobacco company. This includes agriculture, tobacco processing, tobacco brokering, and cigar making under its own factory, Tabacalera Familia Disla, located in Estelí, Nicaragua. In addition, the company has a full-service distribution arm with Domain Distribution.

Now, let’s break down the Attenuation His Eminence and see what this cigar brings to the table.

SPECIFICATIONS

Blend and Origin

Attenuation has a very good tobacco story. First, the blend uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut Seed wrapper sourced from Cajuaca. It’s described as having “Sumatra and Havana” heritage. The blend also features Vanguard Aegis tobacco in the filler. This hybrid seed was developed by Tabacalera Familia Disla.

  • Wrapper: Ecuador Connecticut (Connecticut-seed), with Sumatra and Havana heritage
  • Binder: Nicaragua
  • Filler: Nicaragua, including Vanguard Aegis
  • Country of Origin: Nicaragua
  • Factory: Tabacalera Familia Disla

Vitolas Available

The Attenuation comes in three sizes. The Belicoso Shaggy, known as His Eminence, is a staple size offering in each of Domain’s four core lines. Each comes in 20-count boxes.

  • Toro Extra: 52 x 6
  • Toro Gordo: 56 x 6
  • His Eminence (Belicoso Shaggy): 54 x 6

Appearance (*)

The Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper of the Attenuation His Eminence is a classic golden brown. There wasn’t much oil on the surface of this wrapper. The wrapper had a very slight weathered look, but I think it worked in favor of the cigar’s aesthetics. There were some thin visible veins. The wrapper’s light color made any seams visible. As for the Shaggy look, this is a rough cut rather than frayed, meaning it exposes the binder leaf.

PERFORMANCE

Pre-Light Draw (*)

Before lighting up the Attenuation His Eminence, I used a straight cut to remove about half of the tapered head. This would allow me to still leverage a nice amount of the tapering effect during the smoking experience. Once the cap was clipped, it was time to commence with the pre-light draw ritual. The cold draw delivered a mix of cream, cedar, and earth. Overall, it was a simple but satisfying pre-light draw. Now it was time to toast the foot of this cigar and move on to the smoking experience.

Tasting Notes

The Attenuation His Eminence delivered notes of peanut, earth, cedar, and a slight cream note. As the cigar moved through the rough-cut portion, cedar took center stage as the primary note. Peanut, earth, and cream were secondary, with a layer of black pepper on the retrohale. As the cigar moved into the wrapped portion, the cream notes joined the cedar. Earth and peanut joined with a raw honey sweetness.

During the second third of the Attenuation His Eminence, the cedar and cream remained primary. The raw honey note became the most prominent secondary note. Notes of peanut and earth still remained. In addition, black pepper notes surfaced at the forefront.

The final third saw the cedar remain grounded in the forefront. The cream and raw honey notes receded into the background. The pepper increased slightly. There were still some residual peanut and earth notes. This is the way the Attenuation His Eminence came to a close. The cigar finished with a firm, cool nub.

Burn

As for the burn of the Attenuation His Eminence, this cigar scored as good as it gets. It was one of the best-burning cigars I had in 2026, and the best-burning shaggy foot/rough-cut cigar I have ever had. The cigar required minimal touchups to maintain a straight burn path and straight burn line. The resulting ash was not overly firm, but not loose either. The ash had several shades of gray, including silvers and charcoal. As for burn rate and burn temperature, both stayed within ideal ranges.

Draw

Normally I like a little snugness on the draw. With the Attenuation His Eminence, it had some resistance, but at times it felt a little snugger than I prefer. This cigar didn’t require any relights, and in the end I was just drawing harder than I preferred. I was still able to derive flavors.

Strength and Body

This Attenuation His Eminence opened with medium strength and mild-to-medium-bodied notes. Both the strength and body increased. While the strength stayed in the medium range, the body climbed into the medium range by the final third.

What was interesting is comparing strength to body. Few Connecticut Shade cigars have strength stronger than body. The Attenuation His Eminence is one of those select few. I found this profile worked for this blend.

BANDING AND PACKAGING NOTES (*)

Attenuation’s banding follows a similar contemporary style to the other core lines. Attenuation features a black-and-silver color palette. Like the other core lines, these cigars feature two cigar bands, with one layered over the other. This creates a really sharp look.

Attenuation is packaged in Domain’s patented cigar liner slide-top cabinet box. This improves positioning, humidification, and shelf presence.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Final Thoughts

Normally I am not a fan of a cedar-driven flavor profile. While I got plenty of cedar, the Attenuation His Eminence’s dialed-back body worked in its favor. The end result was a wonderful, well-balanced profile. The exceptional burn was a huge plus. Yes, the draw wasn’t perfect, but it didn’t cause any adverse experiences. Finally, I’m not the biggest fan of shaggy foot cigars, but this one was one of the better ones, and I enjoyed it.

Daniel Lance and Esteban Disla do it again – the Attenuation His Eminence is a total winner. I could recommend this cigar to any cigar enthusiast. As for myself, it’s one that I would buy and smoke again. With a score of 90, Attenuation His Eminence earns a Cigar Coop Standard of Excellence designation.
