Typically, Habanos S.A. unveils most of the new Cuban cigars that will be sold globally during the annual Festival del Habano in February. However, this year’s Festival was canceled and, as such, the announcements regarding new items have been delayed and sporadic.
One of the latest announcements is for the Quai d’Orsay Concordia Edición Limitada 2026. Reportedly, it measures 5 3/4 x 50, a vitola that Habanos S.A. has only used one other time, for the Montecristo L’Esprit, a limited edition release that came in S.T. Dupont humidors.
A launch event for the Concordia will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Las Ventas, a famous bullfighting ring in Madrid. The event is being held in conjunction with Tabacalera, the Spanish distributor for Cuban cigars. It’s unclear when the cigars will be available for sale. Sometimes Cuban cigars will arrive on shelves within days of these events, other times it has taken months.
The Edición Limitada series is an annual release from the Cuban cigar monopoly. Habanos S.A. selects some of its most famous brands and produces vitolas that are not regularly offered for sale in that specific brand. The cigars use tobacco only from the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Rió, which is then aged for a minimum of two years. They carry a secondary band that reads “Edición Limitada” and then the year they were announced.
While they are limited editions, Habanos S.A. rarely discloses the production numbers. Typically, there are three Edición Limitada releases for a given year.
While it is sold internationally, Quai d’Orsay is a brand long associated with France.
In the early 1970s, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing—France’s Minister of Finance—wanted a French cigar. Cubatabaco, the Cuban cigar company at the time, created a new brand called Quai d’Orsay, which was named after the area where the SEITA—the French tobacco monopoly—was headquartered. Decades later, SEITA merged with Tabacalera—the former Spanish tobacco monopoly—to create Altadis, which then bought a 50 percent stake in Habanos S.A.
The name Concordia likely references the Pont de la Concorde, a bridge along the Seine that connects the Quai des Tuileries, located on the right side of the Seine, and the Quai d’Orsay, which is located on the left side of the river.
This is just the second Edición Limitada release for Quai d’Orsay; the first was the Senadores, part of the 2019 Edición Limitada program.
A spokesperson for Tabacalera replied to an email seeking more information about the event but did not provide any additional details.
