Trinidad Vigía Reserva Cosecha 2022 Shown Off in Switzerland

Last week, the newest cigar in Habanos S.A.’s Reserva Series was shown off at an event in Montreux, Switzerland.

The new cigar is the Trinidad Vigía Reserva Cosecha 2022. As with other Reserva cigars, it is a special version of a regular production release made with tobaccos that are specially selected and older than normal. Like the regular Vigía, the cigar measures 4 1/3 (110 mm) x 54.

Production is limited to 5,000 numbered boxes of 20 cigars as well as 5,000 gift boxes of three, the latter a relatively new phenomenon for higher-end Cuban cigar releases.

Each year, Habanos S.A. selects a single regular production cigar from one of its largest brands to be designated as a Gran Reserva or Reserva. Currently, new Gran Reservas are announced in odd-numbered years and Reservas in even-numbered years, though recently, the cigars have not been shipped in the year they were announced.

Reserva releases have tobaccos aged for at least three years, whereas the Gran Reservas use tobaccos aged for at least five years. In this case, the tobacco came from the 2022 harvest.

This is the first Reserva or Gran Reserva release for the Trinidad brand.

As with many other recent Cuban cigar releases, the Vigía Reserva is coming with an extra band. Unlike past Reserva and Gran Reserva releases, there are three bands, including a new foot band that says “VIGÍA”. The main band includes NFT technology, which Habanos S.A. uses to help prevent counterfeiting.

A representative of Intertabak AG, the Swiss distributor of Cuban cigars that hosted last week’s event, said that the company did not have a timeline as to when the cigars would arrive in stores.

Recently, Habanos S.A. has started announcing MSRPs for its releases. While these numbers can be used as guides, or baselines, pricing will likely vary wildly depending on the market. Curiously, the company has listed the gift pack of three at $660 while the box of 20 is $3,800, meaning the smaller boxes have a higher per cigar price.
