S.T. Dupont Table Lighter | Accessory Review

EVALUATION

Accessory Scoring is based on a ten-point system. We look at four areas with accessory scoring:

1. Appearance (2 points)
2. Setup/Usage (3 points)
3. Durability/Long Term Use (2 points)
4. Impressions and Intangibles: How well does it do as advertised (3 points)

Evaluation Period: May 3, 2026, through September 9, 2026– with almost one cigar per day.

Appearance

This piece is visually stunning. The black lacquer contrasts beautifully with the gold, creating a striking appearance. The front of the lighter features the engraving “S.T. Dupont.” The gold features a diamond-point guilloché pattern, enhancing the item’s luxurious look. However, the black lacquer shows fingerprints easily, so keep a microfiber lens cloth handy for cleaning.

The back of the lighter also has the same pattern, but without the large gold S.T. DUPONT engraving.

The top of the lighter has two apertures. One is for the flat jet flame, and the other is for the soft flame. The soft flame is a yellow flame but advertised as being wind-resistant.

Finally, the lighter comes packaged in a luxury-style box.

Setup/Usage

Setup

Once you fill the fuel tank (see later section), the lighter is ready to use with no additional setup required.

Igniting

The flame comes out of the aperture at the top of the lighter. To switch to the jet flame, put your thumb on the front of the ignition and slide it up. To ignite the lighter, place your thumb on the side of the lighter and press down.

To get the soft flame, put your thumb on the front of the ignition and slide it down. Igniting the soft flame is also done by placing your thumb on the side of the lighter and pressing down on it.

When the Table Lighter ignites, there is a distinct click. For those hoping for the “ping” sound heard with the Line 2 lighter, you will be disappointed, as there is not one on this lighter.

Filling/Re-filling

The bottom of the unit contains a mechanism to refill the lighter with butane. Two mechanisms adjust the flame. The one with the large dash icon next to it is for the flat jet flame. The one with the circular icon is for the soft flame. You can adjust the flame with a flat screwdriver (or even a fingernail). Arrows indicate whether the flame will be adjusted to a flatter one.

The refilling process is relatively straightforward: insert the nozzle of your butane refill canister into the valve and press down for a few seconds. Repeat this several times until a small amount of gas begins to escape from the lighter. S.T. Dupont recommends using their butane for compatibility and optimum performance. I did not attempt to deviate from S.T. Dupont’s recommendations here. The one negative is that I never could tell when the lighter was filled with butane. This is one case where a fuel level indicator would have helped.

Durability/Long Term Usage

The Table Lighter underwent a long evaluation period (over 4 months), and it never misfired. It performed flawlessly. The lighter is quite sturdy. While I’m confident in the high-quality lacquer finish, I worry about scratching it due to human error. I didn’t drop the lighter during the evaluation period. I didn’t want to scratch this unit intentionally; I gave it the TLC it needed. Giving it the TLC it deserved helped it perform quite well.

One important thing is that this is a table lighter, not a traveling pocket lighter. It is meant to be kept in your lounge and on a table.

Impressions and Intangibles

Here are some overall impressions, including some positives and negatives:

Positives

• Igniting the Table Lighter couldn’t be easier— you simply push the ignition, and it ignites.
• Switching between the flat-jet flame and soft-flame is easy. You just can’t do it mid-flame.
• While the Table Lighter’s wide flame is a nice feature for covering a large surface area, it is still thin and can be angled for relights or touchups that require a little more precision.
• The soft flame has more weight to it than your average soft flame.
• The lighter has a safety mechanism that prevents the flame from being released when it is held upside down. The safety mechanism works as long as the flame has not been released.
• The lighter didn’t get warm during longer ignition cycles
• The lighter had the look and feel of a high-end luxury item.

Negatives

• The apertures on the lighter are open. So I fear they will get dirty or clogged; it could be challenging to clean. During the evaluation period, it didn’t clog.
• I mentioned it is tough to get a feel for how much butane is in the lighter because there is no fuel indicator.
• The black lacquer and, to a lesser extent, the gold finish are prone to fingerprints.
• If you watched the demonstration video, there are times when, after releasing the ignition, the flame does not instantly extinguish. You need to be mindful and careful about this.
• The lighter didn’t perform well under our wind test (see video below). The flat jet flame was definitely affected by our wind test, and the soft flame simply flunked it. In this case, I don’t think this is a realistic use case for a table lighter under heavy wind conditions, because I primarily see this as an indoor item. Despite the soft flame extinguishing during the wind test, this is still one of the best soft flames I’ve used.
• I find it a slight nuisance to have to use a screwdriver to adjust the flame height.

Wind Test

Below is the wind test we did on the lighter using a portable air conditioning unit.

Size

One thing you will notice right away is how big this looks for an S.T. Dupont lighter. It doesn’t look big compared to other table lighters, but when you look at S.T. Dupont lighters, you’ll notice the difference. Below is a comparison between the Table Lighter and the S.T. Dupont Slimmy.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

Very simply, when it comes to the Table Lighter, S.T. Dupont has done it again. This is a lighter I can see being released in many different designs and collections. It’s a simply beautiful, high-performing lighter. It is a showcase accessory for any cigar lounge.

There are two things I did want to point out. First, I was a little concerned that the flame didn’t extinguish right away. While you should use any flammable device with care, this still must be noted. Second, I didn’t ding this on the lighter as much as on the wind test – simply because it’s not a practical use case to have outside.

In the end, there are far more positives. If you are looking for a top-of-the-line premium table lighter, you simply cannot go wrong – and it’s worth the splurge.
