The CRAFT Maquette Foreign & Domestic, released last year as part of RoMa Craft Tobac’s CRAFT Maquette Series, will be returning to shelves this fall. It’s the first time that a CRAFT Maquette Series cigar has gotten a second release.
Skip Martin, co-founder of RoMa Craft Tobac, said he liked the cigar so much that he personally placed an order with the Nica Sueño factory, which he also co-owns, for more cigars for him to smoke. Rather than keeping all of them, some will be sent to stores.
The CRAFT Maquette Foreign & Domestic is a 4 x 46 box-pressed petite corona. When the cigar was first released, Martin declined to publicly disclose most of the blend info, but we now know a lot more about the blend. That’s because he later went on to disclose that the Foreign & Domestic and Riverside 15th Anniversary cigars not only use the same blend as one another but share a blend with the upcoming CroMagnon Visigoth, which is also due out later this year.
Well, almost the same blend.
All three cigars share the same internal blend: an Indonesian Besuki binder and corojo and criollo fillers from the Jamastrán Valley in Honduras as well as tobacco from Condega, Nicaragua. And all three cigars use an Ecuadorian hybrid wrapper, but they are slightly different hybrids, with Martin saying the wrapper used for Visigoth will be heavier. Martin told halfwheel that the wrappers are close enough that he believes it would be unlikely that someone would be able to tell the two apart. At some point, you will be able to try a direct comparison; one of the Visigoth vitolas is also a 4 x 46 petite corona.
Foreign & Domestic keeps its $10 per cigar MSRP, but production has increased to 1,200 bundles of 10 cigars for the sophomore release, up from 500 for the first release.
The CRAFT Maquette Series is a loose collection of different blends, some of which are complete one-offs, while others have direct ties to regular production cigars. The cigars share similar packaging: craft paper bundles with colored ribbons on the cigars.
The name refers to the company’s operations: Martin lives in Nicaragua, where the cigars are made, while co-founder Michael Rosales lives in Austin, where the company’s headquarters is located. It also refers to the oaths that members of the military and other government officials—including the President—make, which says that they agree to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
