The Red Phone Booth, a chain of 1920s/Prohibition-themed speakeasy cigar lounges and bars, has opened its latest location in Downtown Durham, North Carolina.
Red Phone Booth locations are highlighted by a hidden door accessible only with an access code. Inside, the space features a 1920s-inspired design, premium cigars, and a menu of classic cocktails and premium spirits. The lounges also pride themselves on an elevated hospitality experience. North Carolina entrepreneurs Dr. Michael A. Thomas and Dr. Ralph K. Mensah started the Red Phone Booth Durham location.

We wanted to introduce an experience that feels truly distinctive, one that combines exceptional hospitality, timeless craftsmanship and an atmosphere unlike anything else in the market,” said Dr. Mensah in a press release. “We’re excited to welcome both residents and visitors into a space designed to become a destination for celebrating milestones, building connections and enjoying an elevated night out.”

Specifically, the Durham location features a selection of 150 to 200 premium cigars. It also offers rare, hard-to-find spirits and an award-winning cocktail program rooted in classic recipes. The lounge also features a state-of-the-art air purification and ventilation system. The system uses Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization technology to refresh the interior air about every two minutes.
Membership is not required for an evening at Red Phone Booth Durham, but there is a membership program. Members receive exclusive benefits. The benefits include: priority entry, preferred seating, private tasting access and rare bottle showcases, private event privileges, and personalized cigar storage.
Stephen de Haan founded Red Phone Booth in 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to Durham, it has opened lounges in Buckhead Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, and Nashville. A Tampa, Florida location is also planned.
