Arturo Fuente’s cigar that honors the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks will head to stores this week.
The cigar is the OpusX ReXilient, a 20-count box that contains two different cigars. As is normally the case, the company has declined to disclose details about the blend, though it’s believed to be based on the original OpusX blend, but with some tweaks.
Each box will come with 16 Churchill-sized cigars and four box-pressed cigars that are covered in an American flag wrap. Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr., chairman of Arturo Fuente, told halfwheel that he began working on the project a few years ago, realizing that the 25th anniversary of the event was coming up. He said the cigars in the flag wrap are the first time the company has made an entirely pressed cigar, noting that the cigar is square at both the head and foot and the cap is completely flat.
Inside the ReXilient boxes, the cigars are placed into two trays with two of the flag-wrapped cigars in the middle, a symbol of the Twin Towers, and four of the Churchill cigars on either side.
The boxes have an MSRP of $535. Arturo Fuente is donating $11 per box to Tunnels for Towers, a charity that provides housing assistance, up to free homes, to disabled veterans, Gold Star families, families of fallen first responders, as well as specialized homes for those suffering from injuries.
Arturo Fuente has not said whether this will be a one-time release; instead, the company has focused on making sure the project arrived ahead of the 25th anniversary. Last week, two boxes were auctioned at a Los Angeles charity event for $20,000 each.
In April, the company showed off a prototype box at the 2026 PCA Convention & Trade Show. Fuente Jr. said he worked with the FDNY, the NYPD and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to create a special paper insert that contains badge numbers of many of the people who lost their lives responding to the terrorist attacks in New York City.
“One of the most important things about this project is that the top sheet has the actual badge numbers of the first responders,” said Fuente Jr. “To me, it was important that it represents the families and the people, and the actual sacrifices.”
He repeatedly said that outside of cigars made in honor of family members, this is “the most meaningful” project he has worked on. Fuente Jr. also said some of the packaging traces back to 2001. After the terrorist attacks, Arturo Fuente changed its advertisement in the American Way magazine that was found on every American Airlines flight. The updated ad included a modified version of the OpusX band, but with a red, white, and blue theme.
Arturo Fuente is also using those bands for cigars in an upcoming humidor that will be sold by Elie Bleu that honors the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. While some of the packaging is similar, the cigars are said to be completely different.
The Churchill-sized cigars were actually rolled a few years ago for a different project, while the flag-wrapped cigars were made by a single roller.
“To my taste, I couldn’t make a better cigar,” said Fuente Jr.
