La Aurora USA, LLC has announced the U.S. release of a new value-priced line known as the Santiago Collection. The collection pays homage to the city of Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic. The Santiago region is also the home to La Aurora’s factory.
The Santiago Collection comes in two blends, Maduro and Connecticut. The Maduro features an Indonesian wrapper over an Indonesian binder, a combination of Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. Meanwhile, the Connecticut features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over the same binder and filler. Both cigars come in two formats: Robusto (5 x 50) and Toro (6 x 54). The Robusto carries an SRP of $2.50/cigar while the Toro carries an SRP of $3.00/cigar. The Maduro is slated to ship in August while the Connecticut is scheduled to ship in September.
“Blending a Maduro is about balance — sweetness from the wrapper, depth from the fillers,” said Manuel Inoa, La Aurora Master Blender, in a press release. “Santiago Maduro uses both long-filler, and medium-filler tobaccos instead of only long-filler you’d find in our core line, so the real challenge was construction — finding leaves that would hold their burn and draw the entire way down, not just in the first third. We went through several rounds of blending to get that right without losing the coffee and wood notes people expect from us. The end result is a cigar that brings new smokers into the La Aurora family without asking them to compromise on quality.”
Both the Santiago Collection Maduro and Connecticut are packaged in ten-count bundles.
