Domain Cigars has announced the launch of Domain Distribution, a new U.S. merchant-of-record and distribution service. Domain Distribution is a platform available exclusively to brands manufactured at its production facility, Tabacalera Familia Disla S.A. (TBFD) in Estelí, Nicaragua.
Rather than being an open distribution company, Domain Distribution extends its manufacturing relationship beyond the factory. It provides U.S. licensing, payment processing, wholesale ordering, sales, fulfillment, retailer support, reconciliation and settlement services.
Domain Distribution builds upon infrastructure Domain developed over the past two years for its own U.S. operations. Its existing marketplace serves Domain Cigars and Pariah Cigars. The company says approximately 80% of orders are now processed through its online retailer portal serving over 130 retail locations.
A major component of Domain Distribution is its proprietary wholesale technology platform. It allows retailers to reserve unavailable inventory, receive stocking notifications, delay qualifying shipments for up to 30 days, and use purchasing history to make replenishment decisions. Brands gain visibility into inventory, sales, retailer adoption, product movement, and settlements. Currently, retailers use this existing portal for Domain and Pariah Cigars.
“The progression to building these systems is something we’ve been working on for two years. We built around how we wanted retailers to interact with us. They adopted it much faster than we expected, and that gave us the confidence to keep pushing the platform much further. Domain Distribution is the point where we can begin making that infrastructure available to the brands manufactured through Tabacalera Familia Disla,” commented Daniel Lance, co-founder of Domain Cigars, in a press statement.
