Bolívar Safari Debuting in Côte d’Ivoire on Nov. 21

On Nov. 21, Habanos S.A. will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Bolívar brand by debuting the first Edición Regional branded for Africa.

The Bolívar Safari is a 4 1/3 (110mm) x 54 petit robusto, a size known as the torres in the Cuban cigar portfolio. It’s the same vitola as the Trinidad Vigía.

According to Walid Saleh, ceo at Phoenicia T.A.A. Cyprus Ltd., production is limited to 16,666 boxes of 12 cigars, with an estimated price of €43 ($48.17) per cigar and €516 ($578.07) per box. Beyond being the first Edición Regional release for the African market, the Bolívar Safari also marks the first time that a Bolívar cigar has been released with a pigtail cap as well as the brand’s first release to be packaged in 12-count boxes.

Habanos S.A. offers the Edición Regional program to its various distributors around the world. Each year, distributors can select one cigar to be commissioned for their region, though there have been exceptions when some distributors have been able to select more than one. Those cigars must come from a brand that was not part of the company’s former “Global Brands”—such as Cohiba, H. Upmann, Montecristo, Partagás, Romeo y Julieta, etc.—and must be a size currently not offered in that specific brand.

Edición Regional cigars are signified by a secondary red and silver band that reads Edición Regional followed typically by the name of the region represented by that specific distributor. Oftentimes the cigars do not arrive at stores during the year they are selected for, sometimes, they ship multiple years later.

The Bolívar Safari is being released jointly by Phoenicia T.A.A. Cyprus—the distributor of Cuban cigars for more than 50 countries throughout Africa, Europe and the Middle East—and Phoenicia’s distributor for Côte d’Ivoire, Zino Abidjan. The debut event is scheduled to take place on Nov. 21 at the Sofitel Abidjan Hotel Ivoire in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Boxes of the Bolívar Safari will be available for sale starting Nov. 21 exclusively at Zino Cigares stores in the Ivory Coast, while additional stores across Africa will begin selling the cigars in January 2027.
