Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Previews Overseas No. 2

While some companies create lines just for non-U.S. stores, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust has taken the novel approach of creating a limited production series that will encompass different blends, made in similar vitolas.

Since January 2025, the company—or more specifically, Joya de Nicaragua, which handles much of the non-U.S. sales for Dunbarton—has been selling Overseas No. 1, a 6 x 50 toro.

Sometime next year, that cigar will be replaced by Overseas No. 2. On paper, the cigars share a lot in common. They both use an Ecuadorian wrapper over a Mexican binder and fillers from Nicaragua & the U.S. However, Steve Saka, founder of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, has said that the two blends are significantly different and will not taste the same. The company lists Overseas No. 2 as full.

Saka told halfwheel that he is targeting a release in Spring 2027 and plans to keep making the cigar through mid-2028, when it will be replaced by the Overseas No. 3. While most of the Overseas No. 1 production run is completed, he said that Joya de Nicaragua—which makes both cigars—may still have some final outstanding orders for No. 1, though that will be the last for that cigar.

“The Overseas No. 2 oddly shares many of the common ingredients with the inaugural release, but it delivers a much different and bolder smoking experience,” wrote Saka in a sales sheet. “It is a powerful, complex blend of Nicaraguan sun-grown fillers spiked with a peppery Lancaster Seedleaf with a dark rosado Ecuador-grown Habano Seed capa. The No. 2’s blend delivers a rich tapestry of bittersweet chocolate, dried figs, and long red slim cayenne pepper to the smoker’s palate. This cigar will lie to you… it will remain smooth, but its forty-six ring gauge girth ensures that the puro builds steadily in body and intensity from the first light, to culminate in a deeply resonant, high-strength finale.”

Part of the concept with Overseas is that each cigar would be the same size, potentially making it easier to register future releases in certain countries. However, that plan appears to have already changed as the No. 1 was a 50-ring gauge cigar while the No. 2 is a 46.

While the Overseas No. 1 was intended to be sold exclusively outside of the U.S., Smoke Inn, a South Florida-based retailer, purchased a large quantity of the production run from international distributors, bringing it stateside.
