Heidi Overton FDA Commissioner

President Donald Trump has nominated Dr Heidi Overton to be the new U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner. Overton succeeds Dr. Marty Makary who stepped down from the position on May 12, 2026. Currently Kyle Diamantas has been filling the role on an interim basis.

Dr. Overton is currently a deputy assistant for domestic policy to President Trump. In that role she serves as an advisor to the President on various health issues.

In terms of her position on tobacco regulation, Dr. Overton’s position appears to be unknown.

Dr. Overton’s appointment still must go through confirmation in the U.S. Senate.
