Earlier this week, the newest Room101 began shipping to stores.
The R00m101 17th Anniversary pays tribute to the brand’s founding, which happened in 2009. Since 2019, the 10th anniversary, there’s been a new limited edition release on a nearly annual basis, though the blend is said to change each year. For the 17th release, Room101 has once again turned to AJ Fernandez and the result is a Nicaraguan puro offered in a lone 6 x 52 toro vitola.
“Every Anniversary cigar is a snapshot of where we are at that moment,” said Matt Booth, Room101’s founder, in a press release. “They aren’t meant to repeat themselves because neither do we. That’s the whole point. Seventeen years in, we’re still finding new places to go.”
Booth started Room101 after serving in the Marine Corps. It’s simultaneously both a jewelry brand, known for heavy silver pieces created in Los Angeles, and also a cigar brand. It originally started as a partnership with Camacho, which was acquired by Davidoff. Booth worked with Davidoff until late 2016. After a brief shutdown in the first half of the year, the cigar brand restarted in mid-2017, this time with Booth on his own. In 2022, Scandinavian Tobacco Group acquired the cigar brand and brought on Booth as creative director. In the U.S., STG’s General Cigar Co. distributes Room101 cigars.
While there were new Room101 anniversary cigars last year, there was not a Room101 16th Anniversary. Instead, the brand released a special humidor that included both toro and culebra versions of the first six blends.
STG has not announced how many boxes were produced.
