Spain is one of the largest markets for cigars outside of the U.S. While it’s known mostly because of the large sales volume of Cuban cigars, for some non-Cuban brands, it is a very important market. One of those companies is Joya de Nicaragua.
Since 2022, Joya de Nicaragua has been releasing an annual regional exclusive for Spanish retailers under the name Pata Negra, Spanish for black hoof and a reference to a type of Iberian ham. Each year, Joya de Nicaragua has chosen a different blend for the release; this year, it will be the company’s 45th anniversary cigar: Cuatro Cinco. Like past Pata Negra releases, the Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial Pata Negra is a 5 x 56 double robusto with a pigtail cap. Blend-wise, it uses a Nicaraguan habano wrapper over an Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan fillers. Some of the fillers were aged in spent rum barrels.
Each cigar has an MSRP of €10.70 ($12.30) and production is limited to 700 boxes of 10 cigars. They are expected to ship in early August.
“This Pata Negra edition has been a dream for many over the past few years, and for the 2026 release, we decided to raise the bar with Cuatro Cinco,” said Juan Ignacio Martínez, executive president of Joya de Nicaragua, in a press release. “Handcrafted by the most experienced rollers at our factory, this cigar was created to delight the most discerning aficionados in the Iberian Peninsula; those who truly recognize and appreciate the excellence of a great cigar.”
